Why prices are all over the place

Most charge per doctor per month. Some charge a flat clinic rate. Some cap how many notes you get, and a cheap plan with a note cap can get expensive on a busy week. Connections cost extra sometimes, too. When I looked at CoVet’s Shepherd connection, it was going to add about $100 a month to my bill.

The cost no website lists

Your time fixing the note. If you spend four minutes editing every note, the scribe isn’t saving what you think. Time yourself for a week on your trial, on your real Tuesday, not a demo. Then decide.

What I use

Hearthstone Scribe. I built it, and it runs on a small server in my clinic. The time I get back is mostly the discharge: ten to fifteen minutes per discharge, every discharge. On a solo day, that’s lunch or no lunch. If you don’t want to build your own and you’re the one sitting in the office for two hours after close, just get one. I’d go with CoVet for most doctors.

What to ask before you sign up

  • Where it lands Does the note land in my PIMS, in the right fields, or just near it?
  • The audio How long do you keep the audio, and do you train on it?
  • Note cap Is there a note cap?
  • A real trial Can I run a two-week trial on real patients?

What should a vet check before buying an AI scribe?
Whether the note lands in your PIMS in the right fields, how accurate it is on vet words, whether it writes a discharge you'd hand an owner, where the audio goes, what per DVM means in the price, and how long you spend fixing each note.

What would you hand off if you could?

If this made you think of a job at your clinic that a tool could take off your plate, I want to hear it.

I read every note. You get the prompts I actually typed, and once a month I pick one of those tasks, build the tool for it, and put the video on the front page. Not a newsletter. Your email goes nowhere else.
